Taking care of physical health is so ingrained in everyone today
I wash my face every morning and night, I put sunscreen on to protect my face from UV rays, I work out 5 times a week to stay in shape, I use a face oil to prevent wrinkles and hydrate my skin. I use self tanner, put on makeup when I want to feel prettier, perfume to smell nice, and teeth whitener to keep my pearly whites in tip top shape.

We all know that feeling: It’s 10pm on a Sunday night. You just had a weekend filled with 3pm ice cream followed by 3am pizza...probably mixed with some cocktails in between. THIS is the week - this is the week I go to the gym everyday and hit my fitness goals. You go to bed with a workout plan in mind, basically doing crunches in your sleep, set your alarm clock to a time that doesn’t even know the sun, and swear to yourself, friends, and on the good Lord himself that you’re hitting the gym tomorrow.
With January 1st come and gone, it seems everyone has already declared some new habits, some old habits that need gone like yesterday and some habits they want to improve so they can better shape themselves for 2018. Personally, I don’t love New Years Resolutions...why? Because I think it’s silly to wait for this one “magical” time a year to feel like you can press restart (you can do that at any second of any day), but I do love the idea of a fresh slate and having a 365 day journey to self improvement.
When I was younger, I could tell I was different from other kids. I wore different colored socks, tried to make my own cropped tights with a pair of scissors, and would let my hair fly behind me in a mess of tangles, but I loved just being.
I’ve always hated the phrase “it could always be worse”. You’re mid complaining about failing a test or not getting a job or breaking your leg or a combination of all three and that one person always chimes in too eager with the “well you know….It could always be worse” and you immediately feel like a POS because you’re not starving or homeless, or dying.
I’ve found more often than not that life isn’t always fair…& it can be more confusing than a rubrix cube. People let you down, it’s just apart of living. Friendships crumble or turn fake. People say they love you but don’t need you in the same breathe. Sometimes your own family doesn't even feel like home. It’s scary thinking that there are a million things that can let you down - like climbing a mountain where the foundation looks and feels sturdy, just to grab a rock that comes loose.
Have you ever wanted something so bad, but gave up before seeing it through. Or maybe toyed around with the idea of something for so long that that’s all it ever was? An idea. I would be willing to bet my whole life savings (which isn’t much irrelevant) that you have. Often times we give up before trying or even give up the second it gets tough because the alternative seems scarier. Who wants to put their heart and soul into something that may blow up in their face, right?
Let’s talk getting sweaty. Down and dirty. Fit and Lit.
It’s usually pretty exciting to start a fitness journey. Maybe you go buy a fresh new outfit to showcase at the gym, chop off all your hair to start the metamorphosis of the new person you’ll be in 3 months, or go buy every fruit and veggie from Acai to Zucchini. It all is beautiful and easy to think about, but the reality I hear from most people is it just doesn’t stick. Let’s look at the stats, shall we? So I have a confession...
I am the kind of person who creates problems / circumstances out of thin air - literally I could find something to make me anxious about the air if I thought about it long enough. It all starts with a small speck of a problematic situation which then snowballs into the world collapsing as I know it - I’m sure some of you are familiar with the feeling I’m describing. I don’t know about you, but I felt like I was living out the definition of “’nobody’s perfect” the entirety of last week. I seriously feel like I gave it a whole new meaning…
Work was crazy busy – I work for a sales company that I interned for in New York and felt like I hadn’t left my computer from 7am-11pm yet would still be behind. |
